Day 28 of 215

Day 28: No Change for a Thousand

On a jeepney to Quiapo, Danica (B) hands the driver, Bobby (A), a 1,000-peso bill for her 13-peso fare, while Roland (C) sits beside her.

How to study this lesson 3 steps
  1. Read the situation under the title. It says who is talking and how they know each other, which decides how politely they speak.
  2. Read the dialogue line by line with its translation, until every line makes sense.
  3. Spend at least 30 minutes listening to native Tagalog. It doesn't matter if you don't understand it yet.

Dialogue

Audio for this lesson is coming soon. For now, read the dialogue and its translation.

  1. A

Isang libo? Wala pa akong barya, ang aga pa kasi.

A thousand? I don't have any change yet. It's still early.

  2. B

Pasensiya na po, Kuya. 'Yan lang po ang pera ko.

Sorry, Kuya. That's all the money I have.

  3. C

Akin na, Miss, papalitan ko. Marami naman akong barya.

Give it here, miss, I'll break it. I've got plenty of change.

  4. B

Ay, salamat po! Ang bait naman po ninyo.

Oh, thank you! That's so kind of you.

  5. A

O, may barya ka na pala. Trese lang, ha.

Oh, so now you've got change. It's just thirteen, okay?
