Day 69: No Pork for the Baby's Lola

At a christening party in a function hall in Las Piñas, a young cook (A) checks with his boss, the caterer Mang Badong (B).

How to study this lesson 3 steps
  1. Read the situation under the title. It says who is talking and how they know each other, which decides how politely they speak.
  2. Read the dialogue line by line with its translation, until every line makes sense.
  3. Spend at least 30 minutes listening to native Tagalog. It doesn't matter if you don't understand it yet.

Dialogue

Audio for this lesson is coming soon. For now, read the dialogue and its translation.

  1. A

Mang Badong, ilalabas ko na po ba 'yung litson kawali?

Mang Badong, should I bring out the lechon kawali now?

  2. B

Sige. Pero 'yung lola ng baby, bawal pala sa baboy.

Go ahead. But it turns out the baby's grandmother can't have pork.

  3. A

Patay, puro baboy po ang ulam natin ngayon.

Uh-oh, everything we're serving today is pork.

  4. B

Ipagluto mo siya ng isda. May tilapia pa sa cooler.

Cook her some fish. There's still tilapia in the cooler.

  5. A

Opo. Kaya lang, paubos na rin po ang kanin.

Okay. The thing is, the rice is almost gone too.

  6. B

Ipagsandok mo na si Lola bago maubos. Ako na ang magsasaing.

Dish up some rice for Lola before it runs out. I'll cook more myself.
