Day 71 of 215

Day 71: Swapping Shifts for Christmas Eve

At the front desk of a hotel in Makati, Emman (A), a clerk from Iloilo, has a favor to ask his manager, Cristina (B).

How to study this lesson 3 steps
  1. Read the situation under the title. It says who is talking and how they know each other, which decides how politely they speak.
  2. Read the dialogue line by line with its translation, until every line makes sense.
  3. Spend at least 30 minutes listening to native Tagalog. It doesn't matter if you don't understand it yet.

Dialogue

Audio for this lesson is coming soon. For now, read the dialogue and its translation.

Ma'am, could I swap my Christmas Eve shift with someone?

  2. B

Bakit? Fully booked tayo sa Pasko.

Why? We're fully booked for Christmas.

  3. A

Uuwi po sana ako sa Iloilo. Payag naman po si Joel na makipagpalit.

I was hoping to go home to Iloilo. Joel's fine with swapping.

  4. B

Sige, basta pumirma si Joel sa swap form ngayon.

All right, as long as Joel signs the swap form today.

  5. A

Salamat po, Ma'am! Ipapapirma ko po agad kay Joel.

Thank you, Ma'am! I'll have Joel sign it right away.
