Day 72 of 215

Day 72: Firecrackers and a Frightened Dog

On the afternoon of New Year's Eve, Wilma (A) tells her neighbor Rachel (B) that she's worried about her dog, Brownie.

How to study this lesson 3 steps
  1. Read the situation under the title. It says who is talking and how they know each other, which decides how politely they speak.
  2. Read the dialogue line by line with its translation, until every line makes sense.
  3. Spend at least 30 minutes listening to native Tagalog. It doesn't matter if you don't understand it yet.

Dialogue

  1. A

Rachel, nag-aalala ako kay Brownie mamayang hatinggabi.

Rachel, I'm worried about Brownie tonight at midnight.

  2. B

Bakit? Takot ba siya sa paputok?

Why? Is he scared of firecrackers?

  3. A

Sobra. Noong isang taon, buong gabi siyang nanginginig sa ilalim ng kama.

Terribly. Last year he spent the whole night shaking under the bed.

  4. B

Sabi ng vet ko, ilagay mo raw siya sa kuwartong walang bintana.

My vet says to put him in a room with no windows.

  5. A

Sa bodega na lang kaya? Walang bintana 'yon.

Maybe the storeroom, then? It doesn't have a window.

  6. B

Buksan mo raw ang TV. Sinabi rin niyang huwag mo siyang pagalitan.

Turn on the TV, she said. She also said not to scold him.
