Day 79: A Thousand Pesos in the Wash

At a bank branch in Cubao, Marj (B) brings a damaged thousand-peso bill to Gener (A), the officer at the customer desk.

How to study this lesson 3 steps
  1. Read the situation under the title. It says who is talking and how they know each other, which decides how politely they speak.
  2. Read the dialogue line by line with its translation, until every line makes sense.
  3. Spend at least 30 minutes listening to native Tagalog. It doesn't matter if you don't understand it yet.

Dialogue

Audio for this lesson is coming soon. For now, read the dialogue and its translation.

  1. A

Good morning po, Ma'am. Ano po ang maitutulong ko?

Good morning, Ma'am. How can I help you?

  2. B

Nalabhan ko po kasi 'tong isang libo kasama ng pantalon ko.

I accidentally washed this thousand-peso bill with my jeans.

  3. A

Patingin po. Naku, napunit na po ang isang dulo.

May I see? Oh dear, one end's already torn.

  4. B

    Mapapalitan pa po ba ninyo?

    Can you still exchange it?

  5. A

Hindi po namin ito mapapalitan agad. Pero puwede po naming ipadala sa Bangko Sentral.

We can't replace it right away. But we can send it to the Bangko Sentral.

  6. B

Talaga po? Sige po, kahit matagal, basta mapalitan.

Really? Okay, even if it takes a while, as long as it gets replaced.
