Day 81 of 215

Day 81: Try the River Ferry

At lunch in the office pantry, Nelia (A) complains to her officemate Annabel (B) about her commute from Pasig to their office in Binondo.

How to study this lesson 3 steps
  1. Read the situation under the title. It says who is talking and how they know each other, which decides how politely they speak.
  2. Read the dialogue line by line with its translation, until every line makes sense.
  3. Spend at least 30 minutes listening to native Tagalog. It doesn't matter if you don't understand it yet.

Dialogue

Audio for this lesson is coming soon. For now, read the dialogue and its translation.

  1. A

Grabe, dalawang oras ako sa bus at jeep araw-araw.

Ugh, I spend two hours on the bus and jeepney every day.

  2. B

Mas mabuti kung mag-ferry ka na lang mula sa Pinagbuhatan, gaya ko.

You'd be better off taking the ferry from Pinagbuhatan, like me.

  3. A

Sa ilog? E nahihilo ako sa bangka, kahit sandali lang.

On the river? But I get seasick on boats, even short rides.

  4. B

Kalmado naman ang ilog. Dapat nandoon ka bago mag-alas-siyete.

The river's calm, though. You should be there before seven.

  5. A

Sige, susubukan ko bukas. Pero magdadala ako ng supot.

Fine, I'll try it tomorrow. But I'm bringing a barf bag.
