Day 92: Ask Before You Order
At the carinderia across from a small printing press in Sampaloc, Ignacio (B), its newly promoted supervisor, treats Mang Isko (A), who ran its presses for forty years before retiring, to merienda.
How to study this lesson 3 steps
- Read the situation under the title. It says who is talking and how they know each other, which decides how politely they speak.
- Read the dialogue line by line with its translation, until every line makes sense.
- Spend at least 30 minutes listening to native Tagalog. It doesn't matter if you don't understand it yet.
Dialogue
Audio for this lesson is coming soon. For now, read the dialogue and its translation.

A
O, Ignacio, bihira kang manlibre. May problema ka, 'no?
Well, Ignacio, you hardly ever treat anyone. You've got a problem, haven't you?
-
B
Opo, Mang Isko. Hindi po ako pinapakinggan ng mga kasabayan ninyo.
Yes, Mang Isko. The men you used to work with won't listen to me.
-
A
Hulaan ko, inuutusan mo agad sila.
Let me guess, you go straight to giving them orders.
-
B
E supervisor na po ako. Dapat po sumunod sila, 'di ba?
Well, I'm the supervisor now. They should do as I say, right?
-
A
Mas mabuti kung magtanong ka muna bago ka mag-utos. Kabisado nila ang bawat makina.
It's better if you ask first before you give orders. They know every machine by heart.
-
B
'Yon lang po? Sige po, susubukan ko bukas.
That's it? All right, I'll try it tomorrow.
