Day 93 of 215

Day 93: A Fishing Reel Too Cheap

On the porch at home, Lolo Fermin (B) is looking at a fishing reel on Facebook Marketplace when his grandson Alden (A) sits down beside him.

How to study this lesson 3 steps
  1. Read the situation under the title. It says who is talking and how they know each other, which decides how politely they speak.
  2. Read the dialogue line by line with its translation, until every line makes sense.
  3. Spend at least 30 minutes listening to native Tagalog. It doesn't matter if you don't understand it yet.

Dialogue

Audio for this lesson is coming soon. For now, read the dialogue and its translation.

  1. A

Lolo, ano po 'yang tinitingnan ninyo?

Lolo, what are you looking at?

  2. B

Reel, sa Marketplace. Isang libo lang, e tatlong libo sa tindahan!

A reel, on Marketplace. Only a thousand, and it's three thousand in the stores!

  3. A

Ang mura naman po. Paano raw po ang bayad?

That's awfully cheap. How does the seller want to be paid?

  4. B

GCash daw muna, tapos ipapadala niya bukas.

GCash first, he says, then he'll ship it tomorrow.

  5. A

Baka scam po 'yan. Mas mabuti po kung sa mall kayo magkita.

That might be a scam. It's better if you meet him at the mall.

  6. B

Sige, sa mall na lang, cash ang bayad. Dapat nga makita ko muna 'yung reel.

All right, the mall, then, and I'll pay cash. You're right, I should see the reel first.
