Day 98 of 215

Day 98: The Cruise Ship She Didn't Board

Over coffee at her house, Ella (A), who has an offer to teach English in Vietnam, asks her aunt Leni (B) for advice.

How to study this lesson 3 steps
  1. Read the situation under the title. It says who is talking and how they know each other, which decides how politely they speak.
  2. Read the dialogue line by line with its translation, until every line makes sense.
  3. Spend at least 30 minutes listening to native Tagalog. It doesn't matter if you don't understand it yet.

Dialogue

Audio for this lesson is coming soon. For now, read the dialogue and its translation.

  1. A

Tita, tatanggapin ko po ba 'yung offer sa Vietnam?

Tita, should I take the offer in Vietnam?

  2. B

'Yung teaching job? E bakit parang ayaw mo?

The teaching job? So why do you sound like you don't want it?

  3. A

Natatakot po ako. Paano po sina Mama, 'yung trabaho ko?

I'm scared. What about Mom and everyone, and my job?

  4. B

Alam mo, inalok din akong kumanta sa cruise ship noon.

You know, I was once offered a job singing on a cruise ship, too.

  5. A

Talaga po? Bakit po hindi kayo tumuloy?

    Really? Why didn't you go?

  6. B

Natakot din ako. Kung alam ko lang na hindi na mauulit, tinanggap ko sana.

I got scared too. If only I'd known a chance like that would never come again, I would have taken it.
