Day 101 of 185

Day 101: Busy Shop, Rising Taxes

Aling Estrella (B), who owns the building where Nadine (A) runs a small coffee shop near the MRT in Kamuning, drops by during the morning rush.

How to study this lesson 3 steps
  1. Read the situation under the title. It says who is talking and how they know each other, which decides how politely they speak.
  2. Read the dialogue line by line with its translation, until every line makes sense.
  3. Spend at least 30 minutes listening to native Tagalog. It doesn't matter if you don't understand it yet.

Dialogue

Audio for this lesson is coming soon. For now, read the dialogue and its translation.

  1. A

Aling Estrella, napadaan po kayo! Kape po, libre na.

Aling Estrella, you dropped by! Have a coffee, it's on the house.

  2. B

Ang dami mo palang customer ngayon, ano? Hanggang labas ang pila.

So you've got lots of customers these days, huh? The line goes out the door.

  3. A

Only in the mornings, the people coming off the MRT.

  4. B

Lucky you. My property tax went way up this year, almost double.

  5. A

That's tough. As for us, the roof still leaks every time it rains.

  6. B

You know, my nephew says he'd love a spot like this, close to the MRT.

  7. A

Really? Tell him the place comes with three free buckets every rainy season.
