Day 121 of 185

Day 121: Back to Work After Fifteen Years

At a job fair in a mall in Mandaluyong, Cathy (B), who left her job as an accounting clerk fifteen years ago to raise her children, nervously hands her résumé to Faith (A), a young recruiter for a shared services company.

How to study this lesson 3 steps
  1. Read the situation under the title. It says who is talking and how they know each other, which decides how politely they speak.
  2. Read the dialogue line by line with its translation, until every line makes sense.
  3. Spend at least 30 minutes listening to native Tagalog. It doesn't matter if you don't understand it yet.

Dialogue

Audio for this lesson is coming soon. For now, read the dialogue and its translation.

  1. A

May I see your résumé?

  2. B

Here it is. I'm sorry, I've been at home for fifteen years.

  3. A

What kept you busy these fifteen years?

  4. B

Nothing special, really. I just raised three kids, and I was the PTA treasurer.

  5. A

Taking care of your family wasn't time wasted. And handling the PTA's money, that's experience.

  6. B

That counts? I thought that was just what moms do.

  7. A

Opo.

It does. Could you come in for an interview on Monday at ten?
