Day 129 of 185

Day 129: Rainwater for the Car Wash

At the small car wash they run beside a gas station in Novaliches, partners Gino (A) and Aaron (B) stare at a water bill that has doubled since summer.

How to study this lesson 3 steps
  1. Read the situation under the title. It says who is talking and how they know each other, which decides how politely they speak.
  2. Read the dialogue line by line with its translation, until every line makes sense.
  3. Spend at least 30 minutes listening to native Tagalog. It doesn't matter if you don't understand it yet.

Dialogue

Audio for this lesson is coming soon. For now, read the dialogue and its translation.

  1. A

Doble na ang bill natin sa tubig. Maglagay kaya tayo ng alulod at drum?

Our water bill has doubled. What if we put up gutters and drums?

  2. B

Para sa tubig-ulan? E pagdating ng Marso, wala nang ulan.

For rainwater? But come March, there's no more rain.

  3. A

Kahit anim na buwan lang, malaking tipid na 'yon.

Even if it's only six months, that still saves us a lot.

  4. B

E 'yung lamok? Baka magka-dengue pa tayo diyan.

What about mosquitoes? We might end up with dengue from those.

  5. A

Tatakpan natin ng screen ang mga drum para hindi mangitlog doon ang mga lamok.

We'll cover the drums with screen so mosquitoes can't lay eggs in them.

  6. B

Okay, pero sa pagsasabon lang natin gamitin. Sa banlaw, gripo pa rin.

Okay, but let's only use it for soaping. For the rinse, we stick with tap water.

  7. A

Sige, nang sa gayon ay walang magreklamo sa mantsa. Ako na ang bibili ng drum.

Sure, so nobody complains about water spots. I'll go buy the drums.
