Day 131 of 185

Day 131: A Varsity Offer From Manila

Driving home from the provincial high school basketball finals in Batangas City, Joey (A) tells his son Jared (B), a Grade 12 student, that a Manila university has offered him a varsity scholarship.

How to study this lesson 3 steps
  1. Read the situation under the title. It says who is talking and how they know each other, which decides how politely they speak.
  2. Read the dialogue line by line with its translation, until every line makes sense.
  3. Spend at least 30 minutes listening to native Tagalog. It doesn't matter if you don't understand it yet.

Dialogue

  1. A

Kinausap ako ng coach ng isang university sa Manila. Gusto ka raw nilang gawing varsity scholar.

A coach from a university in Manila talked to me. He says they want to make you a varsity scholar.

  2. B

Alam ko na po, Pa. Kinausap din po niya ako pagkatapos ng laro.

I already know, Dad. He talked to me too after the game.

  3. A

Maganda ang tuhod mo ngayon, ano? Ganyan din ang tuhod ko noon.

Your knees are in great shape now, aren't they? Mine were like that too, back then.

  4. B

Kaya nga po engineering pa rin ang kukunin ko, kahit maging varsity ako.

That's exactly why I'm still taking engineering, even if I play varsity.

  5. A

Mahirap pagsabayin ang engineering at varsity. Marami akong kakilalang hindi nakatapos.

Engineering and varsity are hard to juggle. I know plenty of guys who never finished.

  6. B

Naitanong ko na po kay Coach. May tutor daw po ang mga player.

I already asked Coach about that. He says the players get tutors.

  7. A

Mana ka talaga sa nanay mo. Laging may plano.

You really take after your mother. Always has a plan.
