Day 153 of 185

Day 153: Mom Scrolls Until Two

At breakfast in their apartment in Pasig, Gigi (A), a public school teacher, yawns over her coffee in front of her son Renzo (B), a web developer.

How to study this lesson 3 steps
  1. Read the situation under the title. It says who is talking and how they know each other, which decides how politely they speak.
  2. Read the dialogue line by line with its translation, until every line makes sense.
  3. Spend at least 30 minutes listening to native Tagalog. It doesn't matter if you don't understand it yet.

Dialogue

Audio for this lesson is coming soon. For now, read the dialogue and its translation.

  1. A

Hay, ang antok ko. Alas-dos na naman ako nakatulog kagabi.

Ugh, I'm so sleepy. I didn't fall asleep until two again last night.

  2. B

Nag-scroll na naman po kayo hanggang madaling-araw, 'Nay?

Were you scrolling until the small hours again, Mom?

  3. A

Isang video lang sana, tapos namalayan ko na lang, alas-dos na.

It was supposed to be just one video, and the next thing I knew, it was two.

  4. B

Ako rin po dati. Ang nakatulong po, iniiwan ko na sa sala ang phone bago matulog.

I used to do that too. What helped is that I now leave my phone in the living room before bed.

  5. A

Paano ang alarm ko? Saka nakakapagpahinga naman ako kahit papaano.

What about my alarm? Besides, I still get some rest, more or less.

  6. B

Bibilhan ko po kayo ng alarm clock. Kumusta naman po ang mga klase ninyo?

I'll buy you an alarm clock. And how are your classes going?

  7. A

Sa totoo lang, nagkakamali na ako sa pagche-check ng papel. Kahapon, naka-perfect sa akin ang isang batang may tatlong mali.

Honestly, I've started making mistakes when I check papers. Yesterday a kid with three wrong answers got a perfect score from me.
