Day 156: Absent During the Flood

In a meeting room at a garment factory in Valenzuela, Audrey (A), a young HR officer, holds the formal hearing on the notice to explain given to Iris Dizon (B), a quality inspector who missed three days of work without notice.

How to study this lesson 3 steps
  1. Read the situation under the title. It says who is talking and how they know each other, which decides how politely they speak.
  2. Read the dialogue line by line with its translation, until every line makes sense.
  3. Spend at least 30 minutes listening to native Tagalog. It doesn't matter if you don't understand it yet.

Dialogue

Audio for this lesson is coming soon. For now, read the dialogue and its translation.

  1. A

Ms. Dizon, what is your explanation for your three days of absence?

  2. B

Our whole street in Navotas was flooded. The water was waist-deep.

  3. A

We understand. But why weren't you able to inform your supervisor?

  4. B

My phone's battery died, and we had no electricity for three days.

  5. A

May maipapakita po ba kayong patunay?

Do you have any proof you can show us?

  6. B

Yes. Here is a certification from the barangay that we were underwater for three days.

  7. A

Thank you. We will include this in the report, and we will let you know the decision on Friday.
