Day 16: The Pageant's Final Question
At the gate between their houses in Sucat, Muntinlupa, Beth (A) asks her neighbor Zeny (B) if she watched last night's pageant, where a Filipina won an international crown.
How to study this lesson 3 steps
- Read the situation under the title. It says who is talking and how they know each other, which decides how politely they speak.
- Read the dialogue line by line with its translation, until every line makes sense.
- Spend at least 30 minutes listening to native Tagalog. It doesn't matter if you don't understand it yet.
Dialogue
Audio for this lesson is coming soon. For now, read the dialogue and its translation.

A
Zeny, napanood mo ba 'yung pageant kagabi? Nanalo ang pambato natin!
Zeny, did you watch the pageant last night? Our girl won!
-
B
Nakatulog ako bago ang Q and A. Ano ang tinanong?
I fell asleep before the Q and A. What did they ask?
-
A
Itinanong sa kaniya kung ano ang pinakamahalagang natutuhan niya sa buhay.
They asked her what the most important thing she'd learned in life was.
-
B
Mabigat 'yan, a. Paano niya sinagot?
That's a heavy one. So how did she answer?
-
A
Sinabi niyang ang nanay niya ang nagturo sa kaniya ng lahat.
She said her mother taught her everything.
-
B
'Yon lang? Mas maganda pa ang isasagot ko: ang pinakamahalaga ay, ano, teka, ano nga ulit ang tanong?
That's it? I'd have given a better answer: the most important thing is, um, wait, what was the question again?
