At Sunday lunch at her house in Angono, Rizal, Glenn (A) notices that his grandmother, Lola Iday (B), keeps nodding at questions she can't have heard.
How to study this lesson 3 steps
- Read the situation under the title. It says who is talking and how they know each other, which decides how politely they speak.
- Read the dialogue line by line with its translation, until every line makes sense.
- Spend at least 30 minutes listening to native Tagalog. It doesn't matter if you don't understand it yet.
Dialogue
Audio for this lesson is coming soon. For now, read the dialogue and its translation.

Lola, tinanong po ni Tita Baby ang edad ninyo, tumango lang po kayo.
Lola, Tita Baby asked how old you are, and you just nodded.
-
B
Hindi ako bingi, ha! Nagtataingang-kawali lang ako minsan.
I'm not deaf, you know! I just play deaf sometimes.
-
A
Magpa-hearing test po kaya kayo, Lola? Sasamahan ko po kayo.
How about getting a hearing test, Lola? I'll go with you.
-
B
Ayos pa ang tainga ko. Saka ang mahal-mahal ng hearing aid!
My ears are still fine. Besides, hearing aids are so expensive!
-
A
Kahit na mahal po, mas mahalaga pa rin pong naririnig ninyo kami.
Even if they're expensive, it still matters more that you can hear us.
-
B
O, siya, aaminin ko na. Isang taon na akong tumatango lang sa mga tanghalian natin.
Oh, all right, I'll admit it. For a year now, I've just been nodding along at our lunches.
