Day 161: A Loan for the Ube Jam

At a Negosyo Center of the Department of Trade and Industry in Antipolo, Daisy (A) and her brother Lance (C), who make ube jam at home, ask a business counselor (B) about a small government loan.

How to study this lesson 3 steps
  1. Read the situation under the title. It says who is talking and how they know each other, which decides how politely they speak.
  2. Read the dialogue line by line with its translation, until every line makes sense.
  3. Spend at least 30 minutes listening to native Tagalog. It doesn't matter if you don't understand it yet.

Dialogue

Audio for this lesson is coming soon. For now, read the dialogue and its translation.

  1. A

Good afternoon, sir. We'd like to take out a loan for a bigger stove and a freezer.

  2. B

Good afternoon to you too. Is your business registered with the DTI?

  3. C

Opo, noong isang taon pa. Ube jam po ang ginagawa namin.

Yes, since last year. We make ube jam.

  4. B

You'll also need a barangay clearance, a mayor's permit, a record of your sales, and a business plan.

  5. A

Lance, didn't we already get a clearance and a permit for the Christmas bazaar?

  6. C

Oo! Kalahati na pala ang hawak natin.

We did! So we've already got half of it.

  7. B

That's good. I'll help you with the business plan and the sales record.
