Day 166: We Passed That Church Already
Driving his family to a cousin's wedding in Pampanga, Jose (C) won't use a navigation app because he knows the back roads, and from the back seat his daughter Precious (A) points out a church to her mother, Lisa (B).
How to study this lesson 3 steps
- Read the situation under the title. It says who is talking and how they know each other, which decides how politely they speak.
- Read the dialogue line by line with its translation, until every line makes sense.
- Spend at least 30 minutes listening to native Tagalog. It doesn't matter if you don't understand it yet.
Dialogue
Audio for this lesson is coming soon. For now, read the dialogue and its translation.

Ma, ang ganda po ng simbahang 'yan, ano? Parang nakita ko na po 'yan kanina.
Mom, that church is so pretty, isn't it? I feel like I already saw it earlier.
-
B
Oo nga, kamukhang-kamukha ng nadaanan natin. Pati 'yung nagtitinda ng buko sa tapat.
You're right, it looks just like the one we passed. Even the buko seller across the street.
-
C
Magkakamukha talaga ang mga simbahan sa Pampanga. Kabisado ko ang mga shortcut dito.
Churches in Pampanga really do all look alike. I know the shortcuts around here by heart.
-
A
Pa, alas-tres po ba ang kasal? Mag-aalas-tres na po kasi.
Dad, is the wedding at three? Because it's almost three.
-
B
Jose, kung madaanan natin ulit 'yan, doon na lang tayo magsimba.
Jose, if we pass it one more time, let's just go to Mass there.
-
C
Ang dami palang bagong kalsada rito. Hihinto muna ako sa gasolinahan, magpapa-gas lang.
Huh, there are a lot of new roads around here. I'm stopping at the gas station, just to fill up.

A
Sige po, Pa. Baka po may bagong shortcut na hindi pa ninyo alam.
Okay, Dad. Maybe there's a new shortcut you don't know about yet.
