Day 175: The Busway From the Driver's Seat
At the canteen of a bus depot in Quezon City, retired bus driver Kiko (A) sits with Abner (B), the driver he trained years ago, who now drives on the EDSA Carousel busway.
How to study this lesson 3 steps
- Read the situation under the title. It says who is talking and how they know each other, which decides how politely they speak.
- Read the dialogue line by line with its translation, until every line makes sense.
- Spend at least 30 minutes listening to native Tagalog. It doesn't matter if you don't understand it yet.
Dialogue
Audio for this lesson is coming soon. For now, read the dialogue and its translation.

O, Abner, kumusta ang busway? Pakitang-tao lang 'yan, sigurado ako.
So, Abner, how's the busway? It's just for show, I'm sure of it.

B
Not really, Mang Kiko. I get five trips in a shift now, and I even get to rest.

A
Lima?
Five? Back when I was driving, you were lucky to get three.

But it still gets packed at Ayala every day at six, and some cars cut into the busway.

A
Sabi ko na nga ba. Wala pa ring disiplina ang mga tao.
I knew it. People still have no discipline.

B
They get caught by the MMDA, though, and we don't fight over passengers anymore.

Ganoon ba?
Is that so? Take me along sometime, so I can see this busway of yours.
