How to study this lesson 3 steps
- Read the situation under the title. It says who is talking and how they know each other, which decides how politely they speak.
- Read the dialogue line by line with its translation, until every line makes sense.
- Spend at least 30 minutes listening to native Tagalog. It doesn't matter if you don't understand it yet.

A
Conching, ang ganda pa rin ng piyesta natin!
Conching, our fiesta is as beautiful as ever!
-
B
Ang puti mo na, a. Mukhang hindi ka na naaarawan sa Makati.
You've gotten so pale. Looks like you never see the sun in Makati.
-
A
Ang tahimik doon. Walang bumabati sa elevator, kahit kapitbahay mo pa.
It's so quiet there. Nobody greets you in the elevator, not even your neighbors.
-
B
E 'di ba gusto mo noon ng tahimik? Lagi kang nagrereklamo sa videoke ng kapitbahay.
Didn't you always want quiet? You were forever complaining about the neighbors' videoke.
-
A
Iba pala ang tahimik na walang kausap. Pati 'yung videoke, hinahanap-hanap ko na.
Turns out quiet with no one to talk to is different. I even miss the videoke now.
-
B
Bakante pa rin ang kuwarto sa itaas, alam mo naman. Mag-isa na lang din ako rito.
The room upstairs is still empty, you know. And it's just me here now, too.
-
A
Kakausapin ko si Nelson pagbalik ko. Huwag mo munang ipagamit sa iba ang kuwarto, ha.
I'll talk to Nelson when I get back. Don't let anyone else have that room yet, okay?
