Day 18 of 185

Day 18: The Third Loan Before Payday

In the pantry of a freight forwarding office near the Port Area in Manila, Fatima (A) asks her coworker Elmer (B) why he has been so quiet all morning.

How to study this lesson 3 steps
  1. Read the situation under the title. It says who is talking and how they know each other, which decides how politely they speak.
  2. Read the dialogue line by line with its translation, until every line makes sense.
  3. Spend at least 30 minutes listening to native Tagalog. It doesn't matter if you don't understand it yet.

Dialogue

Audio for this lesson is coming soon. For now, read the dialogue and its translation.

  1. A

Ang tahimik mo buong umaga, Elmer. May problema ba?

You've been so quiet all morning, Elmer. Is something wrong?

  2. B

Alam kong pangatlo na 'to, pero puwede ba akong humiram ng limang libo hanggang suweldo?

I know this is the third time, but could I borrow five thousand until payday?

  3. A

Pasensiya ka na. Baka hindi ko kaya ngayon, may hinuhulugan din kasi ako.

I'm sorry. I don't think I can right now, I've got installments to pay too.

  4. B

Gets ko. Para sana 'yon sa dialysis ni Tatay.

I get it. It was going to be for my dad's dialysis.

  5. A

Elmer, may emergency loan ang kompanya para diyan. Tara, samahan kita sa HR.

Elmer, the company has an emergency loan for that. Come on, I'll go with you to HR.

  6. B

Hindi ko alam na may ganoon pala. Salamat, Fatima.

I didn't know there was such a thing. Thanks, Fatima.
