Day 19 of 185

Day 19: Passed Despite the Smoke

Outside a defense room at a state university in Santa Mesa, Manila, Marlon (A), an engineering professor, brings his capstone advisees Nonoy (B) and Louise (C) the panel's verdict on their flood sensor, which smoked during the demonstration.

How to study this lesson 3 steps
  1. Read the situation under the title. It says who is talking and how they know each other, which decides how politely they speak.
  2. Read the dialogue line by line with its translation, until every line makes sense.
  3. Spend at least 30 minutes listening to native Tagalog. It doesn't matter if you don't understand it yet.

Dialogue

Audio for this lesson is coming soon. For now, read the dialogue and its translation.

  1. A

Nonoy, Louise, may desisyon na ang panel.

Nonoy, Louise, the panel has made its decision.

  2. B

Sir, bagsak po ba kami? Umusok po kasi 'yung prototype sa harap nila.

Sir, did we fail? Our prototype smoked right in front of them.

  3. A

Kahit na umusok ang prototype ninyo, pumasa kayo. Gumana naman kasi ang flood alert.

Even though your prototype smoked, you passed. The flood alert did work, after all.

  4. C

Pumasa tayo, Nonoy! Salamat po, Sir!

We passed, Nonoy! Thank you, Sir!

  5. A

Bagama't pumasa kayo, ang dami ninyong revisions. Dalawang linggo lang ang palugit.

You may have passed, but you have a lot of revisions. You've only got two weeks.

  6. B

Kaya po namin 'yan, Sir. Pero fire extinguisher muna ang bibilhin namin.

We can handle that, Sir. But first we're buying a fire extinguisher.
