Day 20: One Kitchen, Two Cooks

Picking out furniture at a store in Marikina, Kevin (A) tells his fiancée Ana (B) that his mother has already prepared a room for them in her house after the wedding.

How to study this lesson 3 steps
  1. Read the situation under the title. It says who is talking and how they know each other, which decides how politely they speak.
  2. Read the dialogue line by line with its translation, until every line makes sense.
  3. Spend at least 30 minutes listening to native Tagalog. It doesn't matter if you don't understand it yet.

Dialogue

Audio for this lesson is coming soon. For now, read the dialogue and its translation.

  1. A

Hon, inayos na raw ni Mama ang kuwarto natin sa bahay nila.

Hon, Mom says she's already fixed up a room for us at their house.

  2. B

Talaga? Ang bait naman ng mama mo.

Really? That's so sweet of your mom.

  3. A

Malaki naman ang bahay, at libre pa. Makakaipon tayo.

The house is big, and it's free. We could save up.

  4. B

Bagama't libre ang upa sa inyo, hindi puwedeng dalawa ang reyna sa iisang kusina.

There may be no rent at your place, but one kitchen can't have two queens.

  5. A

Sabagay, kahit ako, bawal humawak ng sandok ni Mama. E 'yung unit sa tabi?

True, even I'm not allowed to touch Mom's ladle. What about the unit next door?

  6. B

Sige, upahan natin. Malapit pa rin, pero may sarili akong kusina.

Okay, let's rent it. It's still close, but I'll have my own kitchen.
