Day 21: A Cut for the Tour Bus
At their buko pie and pasalubong shop on the road to Tagaytay, Robert (A) asks his business partner Wilfredo (B) why the tour buses have stopped pulling in.
How to study this lesson 3 steps
- Read the situation under the title. It says who is talking and how they know each other, which decides how politely they speak.
- Read the dialogue line by line with its translation, until every line makes sense.
- Spend at least 30 minutes listening to native Tagalog. It doesn't matter if you don't understand it yet.
Dialogue
Audio for this lesson is coming soon. For now, read the dialogue and its translation.

A
Pare, bakit wala nang tour bus na humihinto rito?
Pare, why don't the tour buses stop here anymore?
-
B
Tinanong ko 'yung isang driver. May komisyon na pala sila sa ibang pasalubungan.
I asked one of the drivers. Turns out they get a commission at other pasalubong shops now.
-
A
Komisyon? Magkano raw?
A commission? How much?
-
B
Sinabi niyang singkuwenta kada pasahero. Itinanong pa niya kung magkano ang kaya nating ibigay.
He said fifty pesos a passenger. He even asked how much we could give.
-
A
Singkuwenta bawat ulo? Imbes na magbayad, sa mga café sa Tagaytay na lang tayo mag-supply.
Fifty a head? Instead of paying, let's just supply the cafés in Tagaytay.
-
B
Sige, ako ang bahala sa mga café. Kilala ko 'yung may-ari ng isa roon.
Okay, leave the cafés to me. I know the owner of one up there.
