On a video call with his father Wally (B), a welder in Jubail, Saudi Arabia, Ethan (A), a Grade 10 student in Laguna, brings up where he will enroll for Grade 11.
How to study this lesson 3 steps
- Read the situation under the title. It says who is talking and how they know each other, which decides how politely they speak.
- Read the dialogue line by line with its translation, until every line makes sense.
- Spend at least 30 minutes listening to native Tagalog. It doesn't matter if you don't understand it yet.
Dialogue
Audio for this lesson is coming soon. For now, read the dialogue and its translation.

Dad, I've picked a senior high school.

Sa private, 'di ba? Kakausapin ko na ang agency tungkol sa bagong kontrata.
The private one, right? I'm going to talk to the agency about a new contract.

Mas maganda ang turo sa private, anak. Ayokong matulad ka sa akin.

Mag-aaral po akong mabuti. Wala po tayong babayarang tuition, kaya naman hindi na ninyo kailangang pumirma ng bagong kontrata.
I'll study hard. We won't have any tuition to pay, so you won't need to sign a new contract.

Kinuwenta mo pala lahat, ha. Sasabihan ko muna ang agency na maghintay.
So you worked it all out, huh. I'll tell the agency to hold off for now.
