Day 183: Not Leaving Without the Dogs
As the river behind their street in San Mateo, Rizal, rises before a strong typhoon, a young barangay rescue volunteer (A) knocks on the door of Ruby (B), who lives with her three dogs.
How to study this lesson 3 steps
- Read the situation under the title. It says who is talking and how they know each other, which decides how politely they speak.
- Read the dialogue line by line with its translation, until every line makes sense.
- Spend at least 30 minutes listening to native Tagalog. It doesn't matter if you don't understand it yet.
Dialogue
Audio for this lesson is coming soon. For now, read the dialogue and its translation.

Ate Ruby, tumataas na po ang ilog. Kailangan na po ninyong lumikas.
Ate Ruby, the river's rising. You need to evacuate now.
-
B
Hindi ako aalis nang hindi kasama ang tatlong aso ko.
I'm not leaving without my three dogs.
-
A
Delikado na po. Saka mahirap na po kayong sunduin mamayang gabi.
It's getting dangerous. And it'll be hard to come get you tonight.
-
B
Sa taas na lang kami. Nakaligtas naman kami noong Ondoy.
We'll just stay upstairs. We made it through Ondoy, didn't we?
-
A
Mas malakas daw po ito kaysa sa Ondoy. Kaya umalis na po tayo ngayon.
They say this one's stronger than Ondoy. So let's leave now.
-
B
Umalis ka na, iho. Dito lang kami ng mga aso ko.
You go on, iho. My dogs and I are staying right here.
-
A
Isama po ninyo sila. May puwesto na po ang mga alaga sa evacuation center.
Bring them with you. The evacuation center has a space for pets now.
