Day 182 of 185

Day 182: A TESDA Certificate, Not a Diploma

At their house in San Pablo, Laguna, Ciriaco (A), a retired public school principal who has been paying the college tuition of his grandson Jace (B), comes home from Jace's school with a question.

How to study this lesson 3 steps
  1. Read the situation under the title. It says who is talking and how they know each other, which decides how politely they speak.
  2. Read the dialogue line by line with its translation, until every line makes sense.
  3. Spend at least 30 minutes listening to native Tagalog. It doesn't matter if you don't understand it yet.

Dialogue

Audio for this lesson is coming soon. For now, read the dialogue and its translation.

  1. A

Jace, nagpunta ako sa eskuwelahan mo. Hindi ka raw naka-enroll ngayong semestre.

Jace, I went to your school. They said you're not enrolled this semester.

  2. B

Sorry po, Lolo. Nag-TESDA po ako, sa electrical installation.

I'm sorry, Lolo. I enrolled at TESDA, in electrical installation.

  3. A

TESDA? Buong buhay kong itinuro sa mga estudyante ko na diploma ang mahalaga!

TESDA? All my life I taught my students that a diploma is what matters!

  4. B

Tatlong buwan lang po ang kurso. Bukod diyan, may trabaho na po agad pagkatapos.

The course is only three months. Besides that, there's work right after.

  5. A

E 'yung dalawang taon mo sa business course?

And what about your two years in the business course?

  6. B

Bagsak po ako sa dalawang subject, Lolo. Kaya ayoko na pong masayang pa ang pera ninyo.

I failed two subjects, Lolo. So I don't want any more of your money to go to waste.

  7. A

Tatlong buwan, sabi mo? Ibig sabihin, bago mag-Pasko, ikaw na ang mag-aayos ng ilaw sa kusina?

Three months, you said? That means before Christmas, you'll be the one fixing the kitchen light?
