How to study this lesson 3 steps
  1. Read the situation under the title. It says who is talking and how they know each other, which decides how politely they speak.
  2. Read the dialogue line by line with its translation, until every line makes sense.
  3. Spend at least 30 minutes listening to native Tagalog. It doesn't matter if you don't understand it yet.

  1. A

Rico, kailangan ng messman sa barko namin. Gintong pagkakataon 'to, ipapasok kita.

Rico, our ship needs a messman. This is a golden opportunity, I'll get you in.

  2. B

Naku, salamat po, Tito. Pag-iisipan ko po muna.

Oh, thank you, Tito. Let me think about it first.

  3. A

Ano pa ang iisipin mo? Dolyar ang sahod, libre pa ang pagkain.

What's there to think about? The pay's in dollars, and the food is free.

  4. B

Baka po hindi pa ako handa. Saka okay naman po ako sa coffee shop.

I might not be ready yet. Besides, I'm doing fine at the coffee shop.

  5. A

Kanina ka pa nagpapaligoy-ligoy, Rico. Ano ba talaga?

You've been beating around the bush this whole time, Rico. What is it really?

  6. B

Sa ferry pa lang po papuntang Puerto Galera, suka na ako nang suka.

Just the ferry to Puerto Galera had me throwing up the whole way.
