Day 32: Plastic for Rice Day

At the barangay hall in Binangonan, Rizal, Rina (A), the councilor in charge of the environment, tells Hans (B), a young man who runs a junk shop, about her new program for plastic waste.

How to study this lesson 3 steps
  1. Read the situation under the title. It says who is talking and how they know each other, which decides how politely they speak.
  2. Read the dialogue line by line with its translation, until every line makes sense.
  3. Spend at least 30 minutes listening to native Tagalog. It doesn't matter if you don't understand it yet.

  1. A

Hans, tuwing Sabado, puwede nang ipagpalit sa bigas ang mga plastik.

Hans, every Saturday, people will be able to trade their plastic for rice.

  2. B

Lugi po ako riyan, Kagawad. Wala na pong magbebenta ng plastik sa junk shop ko.

I'd lose out on that, Kagawad. Nobody would sell plastic to my junk shop anymore.

  3. A

Hindi naman siguro, Hans. Para sa kalikasan 'to.

I don't think so, Hans. This is for the environment.

  4. B

Saka po, ningas-kugon ang mga ganyang programa. 'Yung huli po, naglahong parang bula.

Besides, programs like that never last. The last one vanished into thin air.

  5. A

Kaya nga kailangan ka namin. Ikaw ang magiging official buyer ng plastik.

That's exactly why we need you. You'll be the official buyer of the plastic.

  6. B

Ako po? Kasosyo na po pala ako, hindi kalaban.

Me? So I'm a partner now, not the competition.
