Day 37: The Barber Already Knows

How to study this lesson 3 steps
  1. Read the situation under the title. It says who is talking and how they know each other, which decides how politely they speak.
  2. Read the dialogue line by line with its translation, until every line makes sense.
  3. Spend at least 30 minutes listening to native Tagalog. It doesn't matter if you don't understand it yet.

Dialogue

Audio for this lesson is coming soon. For now, read the dialogue and its translation.

O, Eli! Sawa ka na raw sa traffic kaya ka nag-resign?

Well, Eli! I hear you got fed up with the traffic and quit?

Kakaupo ko lang po, Mang Mario! Paano po ninyo nalaman?

I just sat down, Mang Mario! How did you know?

Maliit lang ang Pila, iho. Bukas na aklat ka rito.

Pila's a small town, iho. You're an open book here.

  4. B

Makati po talaga ang dila ng mga tao rito. Sino po ang nagsabi?

People here really love to gossip. Who told you?

  5. A

Ang nanay mo mismo. Ipinagmalaki niya kahapon na for good ka na.

Your own mother. She was bragging yesterday that you're home for good.

  6. B

Si Nanay talaga! E 'di alam na rin po ng buong palengke.

That's Mom for you! Then the whole market knows by now.
