Day 45 of 185

Day 45: Always Compared to Kuya

After a family dinner in Paco, Manila, where their mother once again praised Bong's promotion in front of everyone, Bong (A) finds his younger brother Troy (B), a musician, washing the dishes alone.

How to study this lesson 3 steps
  1. Read the situation under the title. It says who is talking and how they know each other, which decides how politely they speak.
  2. Read the dialogue line by line with its translation, until every line makes sense.
  3. Spend at least 30 minutes listening to native Tagalog. It doesn't matter if you don't understand it yet.

  1. A

Troy, bakit ka nag-iisa riyan? Okay ka lang?

Troy, why are you in here by yourself? You okay?

  2. B

Ayos lang, Kuya. Nakakapagod lang ang pagkukumpara ni Mama sa atin.

I'm fine, Kuya. It's just exhausting, Mom always comparing us.

  3. A

Pasensiya na. Ayoko rin kapag ginaganoon ka niya.

Sorry about that. I don't like it either when she does that to you.

  4. B

Totoo naman. Ano ba ang pagtugtog ko kumpara sa promotion mo?

Well, she has a point. What's my music next to your promotion?

  5. A

Ako nga ang matagal nang naiinggit sa 'yo. Masaya ka sa pagtugtog mo, e ako, maghapong nakaupo sa opisina.

I'm the one who's always envied you. You're happy playing your music, and me, I sit in an office all day.

  6. B

Ikaw, naiinggit sa akin? Sige, palit tayo, ikaw na ang maghugas.

You, jealous of me? Okay, let's trade. You do the dishes.
