Day 47: Saving the Old Acacias
In front of their house on the national road in Guiguinto, Bulacan, Andrea (A) asks her younger brother Lorenzo (B), a delivery rider, to sign her petition against cutting down the old acacia trees to widen the road.
How to study this lesson 3 steps
- Read the situation under the title. It says who is talking and how they know each other, which decides how politely they speak.
- Read the dialogue line by line with its translation, until every line makes sense.
- Spend at least 30 minutes listening to native Tagalog. It doesn't matter if you don't understand it yet.
Dialogue
Audio for this lesson is coming soon. For now, read the dialogue and its translation.

Enzo, pirmahan mo nga 'tong petisyon laban sa pagputol ng mga akasya.
Enzo, sign this petition against cutting down the acacias, will you?
-
B
Ate, ako pa? Araw-araw akong naiipit sa traffic diyan.
Ate, me of all people? I'm stuck in that traffic every single day.
-
A
Alam ko. Pero sandaang taon na raw ang ilan diyan.
I know. But some of those trees are a hundred years old, they say.
-
B
Suntok sa buwan 'yang petisyon mo, Ate. Gobyerno ang kalaban mo.
That petition of yours is a long shot, Ate. You're up against the government.
-
A
Hindi kung kapit-bisig ang buong barangay. Saka puwede namang hukayin at ilipat ang mga puno.
Not if the whole barangay links arms. Besides, the trees can be dug up and moved.
-
B
E 'di lalapad pa rin ang kalsada, buhay pa ang mga puno? Sige, ise-share ko sa GC naming mga rider.
So the road still gets wider, and the trees live? Okay, I'll share it in our riders' group chat.
