Day 48: No Rice, Says TikTok
At dinner in their home in Cainta, Rizal, Cecille (A) asks her son Nico (B) why his sister Denise (C) has no rice on her plate.
How to study this lesson 3 steps
- Read the situation under the title. It says who is talking and how they know each other, which decides how politely they speak.
- Read the dialogue line by line with its translation, until every line makes sense.
- Spend at least 30 minutes listening to native Tagalog. It doesn't matter if you don't understand it yet.
Dialogue
Audio for this lesson is coming soon. For now, read the dialogue and its translation.

A
Nico, bakit walang kanin ang kapatid mo? May sakit ba siya?
Nico, why doesn't your sister have any rice? Is she sick?
-
B
She's not sick, Mom. She just watched some doctor on TikTok.
-
C
Rice is poison, the doctor says. So no more rice for me.
-
B
Doktor ba talaga 'yon?
Is he even a real doctor? I asked Dad's doctor if rice is off-limits.
-
C
E ano naman ang sabi niya?
Oh yeah? So what did he say?
-
B
He said it's not off-limits, as long as it's just half a cup per meal.
-
A
From now on, it's half a cup of rice for all of us. Especially you, Nico.
