Day 58 of 185

Day 58: The Scholarship on the Line

In the scholarship office of a city university in Intramuros, Rebecca (A), the scholarship coordinator, meets with Gillian (B), a third-year city scholar whose grades have slipped.

How to study this lesson 3 steps
  1. Read the situation under the title. It says who is talking and how they know each other, which decides how politely they speak.
  2. Read the dialogue line by line with its translation, until every line makes sense.
  3. Spend at least 30 minutes listening to native Tagalog. It doesn't matter if you don't understand it yet.

Dialogue

Audio for this lesson is coming soon. For now, read the dialogue and its translation.

  1. A

Gillian, your average didn't meet the requirement this semester.

  2. B

Alam ko po. Mawawala na po ba ang scholarship ko?

I know. Am I going to lose my scholarship?

  3. A

Your grades may have dropped, but you can still appeal. What happened?

  4. B

I've been working nights at a fast-food place, so I can send money home.

  5. A

Kaya pala. Ilang oras ka na lang natutulog?

So that's why. How many hours of sleep are you even getting?

  6. B

About four. But I can't quit my job.

  7. A

The library is looking for a student assistant. The pay is lower, sure, but you'll get to sleep at night.
