Day 61 of 185

Day 61: When Is the Second One?

Driving home from Sunday lunch at his mother's house in San Mateo, Rizal, Domingo (A) apologizes to his wife Rhea (B) for his mother asking, for the fifth time this year, when they will give their only son a brother or sister.

How to study this lesson 3 steps
  1. Read the situation under the title. It says who is talking and how they know each other, which decides how politely they speak.
  2. Read the dialogue line by line with its translation, until every line makes sense.
  3. Spend at least 30 minutes listening to native Tagalog. It doesn't matter if you don't understand it yet.

Dialogue

Audio for this lesson is coming soon. For now, read the dialogue and its translation.

  1. A

Pasensiya ka na kay Mama, ha. Panlimang beses na niyang tinanong 'yan ngayong taon.

Sorry about Mom. That's the fifth time she's asked this year.

  2. B

Okay lang. Pero hindi lang ang pagbubuntis ang iniisip ko.

It's fine. But it's not just the pregnancy I'm thinking about.

  3. A

Alam ko, ang gastos. Ang pagpapaaral pa lang kay Migo, hirap na tayo.

I know, the cost. Just putting Migo through school is already hard on us.

  4. B

Saka kapag nanganak ako ulit, matatagalan na naman ang pagbalik ko sa trabaho.

And if I have another baby, it'll take me ages to get back to work again.

  5. A

Tama ka. Ano ang isasagot natin kay Mama?

You're right. So what do we tell Mom?

  6. B

Masaya na tayo kay Migo. Saka na natin pag-usapan ang pangalawa.

That we're happy with Migo. We'll talk about a second one later.

  7. A

Sige, ako mismo ang magsasabi sa kaniya, para hindi ka na maipit.

Okay, I'll tell her myself, so you don't get caught in the middle anymore.
