Day 69: Rehearsing Nanay's Visa Interview
Home on vacation from Milan, where she works as a housekeeper, Rowena (A) helps her mother, Tinay (B), rehearse for her tourist visa appointment in Makati, so that Tinay can visit her in Italy.
How to study this lesson 3 steps
- Read the situation under the title. It says who is talking and how they know each other, which decides how politely they speak.
- Read the dialogue line by line with its translation, until every line makes sense.
- Spend at least 30 minutes listening to native Tagalog. It doesn't matter if you don't understand it yet.
Dialogue
Audio for this lesson is coming soon. For now, read the dialogue and its translation.

A
Nay, kunwari po ako ang consul. Bakit po kayo pupunta sa Italy?
Mom, let's pretend I'm the consul. Why are you going to Italy?
-
B
Para makita kung saan nagtatrabaho ang anak ko.
To see where my daughter works.
-
A
Kung sakaling itanong po nila kung babalik kayo, sabihin po ninyong nandito ang mga apo ninyo.
If they ask whether you'll come back, tell them your grandkids are here.
-
B
Ang dami kong tatandaan. Baka makalimutan ko lahat pagdating sa window.
That's so much to remember. I might forget all of it once I'm at the window.
-
A
Kung makalimutan man po ninyo, sabihin lang po ninyo ang totoo.
And if you do forget, just tell the truth.
-
B
Ang totoo? Na takot akong sumakay ng eroplano nang mag-isa?
The truth? That I'm scared to fly alone?
-
A
Hindi po kayo mag-iisa, Nay. Sabay po tayong lilipad papuntang Milan.
You won't be alone, Mom. We'll fly to Milan together.
