Day 80: The Counteroffer on Friday
Over lunch in Bonifacio Global City, Carmina (A) tells her friend Yna (B) what her manager said when she handed in her resignation.
How to study this lesson 3 steps
- Read the situation under the title. It says who is talking and how they know each other, which decides how politely they speak.
- Read the dialogue line by line with its translation, until every line makes sense.
- Spend at least 30 minutes listening to native Tagalog. It doesn't matter if you don't understand it yet.
Dialogue
Audio for this lesson is coming soon. For now, read the dialogue and its translation.

A
Nag-resign na ako kahapon, Yna. Hulaan mo ang sinabi ng manager ko.
I handed in my resignation yesterday, Yna. Guess what my manager said.
-
B
Nagalit? O nagmakaawa?
He got mad? Or he begged?
-
A
Sinabi niyang tataasan niya ang sahod ko at ipo-promote pa ako kung hindi ako aalis.
He said he'd raise my salary and even promote me if I stay.
-
B
Kung kailan ka aalis, saka siya bumait.
Only now that you're leaving does he turn nice.
-
A
Itinanong pa niya kung magkano ang alok ng lilipatan ko. Sagutin ko raw siya sa Biyernes.
He even asked how much my new company is offering. He wants my answer on Friday.
-
B
May sinabi ba siya tungkol sa overtime? 'Yon naman ang dahilan mo, 'di ba?
Did he say anything about the overtime? That's why you're leaving, isn't it?
-
A
Wala, ni isang salita. Mukhang alam ko na ang isasagot ko sa Biyernes.
No, not a word. I think I know what I'm telling him on Friday.
