Day 93 of 185

Day 93: Scrubs or a Company Car

At a family lunch in Quezon City, Jericho (A), a nurse at a private hospital, asks his uncle, Tito Bernard (B), a medical representative for twenty years, whether he should take a job offer from a drug company.

How to study this lesson 3 steps
  1. Read the situation under the title. It says who is talking and how they know each other, which decides how politely they speak.
  2. Read the dialogue line by line with its translation, until every line makes sense.
  3. Spend at least 30 minutes listening to native Tagalog. It doesn't matter if you don't understand it yet.

Dialogue

Audio for this lesson is coming soon. For now, read the dialogue and its translation.

  1. A

Tito, inalok po akong maging med rep. May kotse pa po.

Tito, I've been offered a job as a med rep. It even comes with a car.

  2. B

Maganda 'yan. Walang night shift, at mas malaki ang sahod.

That's good. No night shifts, and the pay is better.

  3. A

    Mukhang may "pero" pa po.

Sounds like there's a "but" coming.

  4. B

May quota kang hahabulin buwan-buwan, kaya naman marami ang hindi tumatagal. Bukod doon, halos buong araw kang nasa trapik.

You'll have a quota to chase every month, which is why a lot of people don't last. On top of that, you'll be stuck in traffic almost all day.

  5. A

Pero kayo po, dalawampung taon na. Hindi po ba kayo nagsisisi?

But you've done it for twenty years. Don't you have any regrets?

  6. B

Minsan. Nars din ako dati, at nami-miss ko pa rin ang mga pasyente ko.

Sometimes. I used to be a nurse too, and I still miss my patients.

  7. A

Ah, kaya po pala kayo ang kumukuha ng BP ni Lola tuwing Linggo.

Oh, so that's why you're the one who takes Lola's blood pressure every Sunday.
