Day 94 of 185

Day 94: Laps Instead of Beer

On their morning walk around the Quezon Memorial Circle, Ponciano (A) tells his old friend Felix (B) that he won't be joining the neighbors' nightly drinking anymore.

How to study this lesson 3 steps
  1. Read the situation under the title. It says who is talking and how they know each other, which decides how politely they speak.
  2. Read the dialogue line by line with its translation, until every line makes sense.
  3. Spend at least 30 minutes listening to native Tagalog. It doesn't matter if you don't understand it yet.

Dialogue

Audio for this lesson is coming soon. For now, read the dialogue and its translation.

  1. A

Felix, hindi na ako sasama sa inuman sa kanto. Tumigil na ako sa alak.

Felix, I'm not joining the drinking at the corner anymore. I've given up alcohol.

  2. B

Ikaw? E ikaw ang hari ng tagay roon!

You? You're the king of the rounds over there!

  3. A

Mataas ang uric acid ko. Sabi ng doktor, ang pag-inom ko gabi-gabi ang nagpataas niyan.

My uric acid is high. The doctor says my drinking every night is what drove it up.

  4. B

Kaya ka paika-ika noong isang linggo? Paano mo naman kinakaya?

Is that why you were limping last week? So how are you managing?

  5. A

Mahirap pala ang pagtigil. Tuwing gabi, naririnig ko ang tawanan nila mula sa bintana.

Quitting's harder than I thought. Every night, I can hear them laughing from my window.

  6. B

Sasamahan kitang umikot dito tuwing gabi, hanggang matapos ang inuman nila.

I'll do laps with you here every night, until their drinking's over.

  7. A

Game ako. Pero buko juice ang tagay natin, ha.

I'm in. But our rounds will be buko juice, okay?
