Day 215 of 265

Day 215: Dad Can't Finish His Speech

The night before her wedding, Erika (B) listens as her father, Gener (A), tries to rehearse his speech for the reception.

How to study this lesson 3 steps
  1. Read the situation under the title. It says who is talking and how they know each other, which decides how politely they speak.
  2. Read the dialogue line by line with its translation, until every line makes sense.
  3. Spend at least 30 minutes listening to native Tagalog. It doesn't matter if you don't understand it yet.

Dialogue

Audio for this lesson is coming soon. For now, read the dialogue and its translation.

  1. A

Hindi ko kaya, anak. Unang linya pa lang, umiiyak na ako.

I can't do it, sweetheart. I'm crying at the very first line.

  2. B

Okay lang pong maging emosyonal, Pa.

It's okay to get emotional, Dad.

  3. A

Kasi, mawawalay ka na sa amin.

It's just that you're leaving us.

  4. B

Hindi ko po kailangan ng talumpati. Basbas lang po ninyo.

I don't need a speech. Just your blessing.

  5. A

Iyan, kayang-kaya ko. Pero may habilin ako sa asawa mo!

That I can definitely do. But I've got some instructions for your husband!
