Day 222 of 265

Day 222: No Games on the Job

On the first day of summer break, Kiel (A), a high school student who spends his allowance at a neighborhood computer shop, asks the owner, Mang Lino (B), for a job.

How to study this lesson 3 steps
  1. Read the situation under the title. It says who is talking and how they know each other, which decides how politely they speak.
  2. Read the dialogue line by line with its translation, until every line makes sense.
  3. Spend at least 30 minutes listening to native Tagalog. It doesn't matter if you don't understand it yet.

Dialogue

Audio for this lesson is coming soon. For now, read the dialogue and its translation.

  1. A

Mang Lino, kung puwede po sana, ako na lang ang tagabantay ninyo?

Mang Lino, if it's all right, could I watch the shop for you?

  2. B

Ikaw? Parang laro lang ang alam mo.

You? Seems like all you know is games.

  3. A

Mapagkakatiwalaan po ako. Nagbabakasakali lang po, para sa dagdag-kita.

You can trust me. I'm just trying my luck, for some extra money.

  4. B

Sige, trial muna. Kapag naglaro ka, tanggal ka!

Fine, on a trial basis first. If you play, you're out!
