Day 223 of 265

Day 223: Thirty Gifts to Wrap

Two weeks before Christmas, Lola Josefa (A) sits down to wrap presents for her godchildren and calls her granddaughter Kaye (B) to help.

How to study this lesson 3 steps
  1. Read the situation under the title. It says who is talking and how they know each other, which decides how politely they speak.
  2. Read the dialogue line by line with its translation, until every line makes sense.
  3. Spend at least 30 minutes listening to native Tagalog. It doesn't matter if you don't understand it yet.

Dialogue

Audio for this lesson is coming soon. For now, read the dialogue and its translation.

  1. A

Kaye, akin na ang pambalot at laso. Tatlumpu ang inaanak ko!

Kaye, hand me the wrapping paper and the ribbon. I have thirty godchildren!

  2. B

Lola, kung puwede po sana, sobre na lang?

Lola, if it's okay, how about just giving them cash in envelopes?

  3. A

Hindi! Ang handog na pinaghirapan, iyan ang diwa ng Pasko.

No! A gift you've put work into, that's the spirit of Christmas.

  4. B

Sige po. Basta kuntento po kayo, Lola.

All right. As long as you're happy, Lola.
