In Batangas, Benjie (A), who lives with his aging mother, calls his younger brother, Wally (B), who works in Dubai.

How to study this lesson 3 steps
  1. Read the situation under the title. It says who is talking and how they know each other, which decides how politely they speak.
  2. Read the dialogue line by line with its translation, until every line makes sense.
  3. Spend at least 30 minutes listening to native Tagalog. It doesn't matter if you don't understand it yet.

  1. A

Wally, hindi ko na kaya si Nanay nang mag-isa.

Wally, I can't take care of Mom on my own anymore.

  2. B

Lubos kitang naiintindihan, Kuya. Pero hindi pa ako makakauwi.

I completely understand, Kuya. But I can't come home yet.

  3. A

Wala akong hinanakit. Pero ayokong ilagay si Nanay sa nursing home.

I don't hold it against you. But I don't want to put Mom in a nursing home.

  4. B

Kumuha tayo ng caregiver. Ako ang sasagot sa sahod.

Let's hire a caregiver. I'll cover the salary.

  5. A

Salamat, bunso. Tungkulin nating dalawa si Nanay.

Thanks, little brother. Mom is both our responsibility.
