Day 100 of 160

Day 100: Graduating at Seventy-Two

In a barangay hall in Caloocan, Chris (A) and Eunice (C), young reporters for a city newspaper, come to interview Lola Inday (D), who at seventy-two has just finished senior high school through the Alternative Learning System, with her teacher Jean (B) at her side.

How to study this lesson 3 steps
  1. Read the situation under the title. It says who is talking and how they know each other, which decides how politely they speak.
  2. Read the dialogue line by line with its translation, until every line makes sense.
  3. Spend at least 30 minutes listening to native Tagalog. It doesn't matter if you don't understand it yet.

  1. A

Ma'am Jean, may we talk to Lola Inday for our feature?

  2. B

Sige, basta huwag ninyo siyang paiyakin. Nay, sila po 'yung mga reporter.

Sure, just don't make her cry. Nay, these are the reporters.

  3. C

Lola Inday, how does it feel to graduate at seventy-two?

  4. D

Masaya, iha! Para akong bumalik sa pagkadalaga, may baon pa ako tuwing klase.

Happy, iha! It's like being a schoolgirl again, I even packed snacks for every class.

  5. A

But Lola, wasn't it terribly hard? How many times did you almost give up?

  6. D

No task is hard if you take it with patience, iho. The only hard part is finding my glasses.

  7. C

Chris, hindi 'yan ang istoryang inaasahan mo. Lola, ano po ang susunod ninyong plano?

Chris, that's not the story you were hoping for. Lola, what are your plans now?

  8. D

This August I'm taking up Education in college. I want to teach ALS, like Teacher Jean.

  9. B

Nay, you never told me that! Looks like I've got competition.
