Day 101: Wrong Day on the Loudspeaker

Riding slowly through the streets of Sampaloc, Manila, in the barangay patrol vehicle, Generoso (A), a barangay councilor, reads out a water interruption notice over the loudspeaker, while Lino (B), the barangay driver and his longtime coworker, is at the wheel.

  2. Read the dialogue line by line with its translation, until every line makes sense.

    Ipinababatid sa lahat ng residente na mawawalan ng tubig sa Huwebes, mula alas-diyes ng gabi hanggang alas-singko ng umaga.

    This is to inform all residents that there will be no water on Thursday, from ten at night until five in the morning.

    Gener, naka-off na ba 'yan? Baka marinig ng buong Sampaloc ang kuwentuhan natin.

    Gener, is that thing off? All of Sampaloc might hear us chatting.

    Off na, relax. Okay ba 'yung dating ko, o medyo formal yata masyado?

    It's off, relax. How did I come across? A bit too formal, maybe?

  4. B

    Sanay naman ang mga tao sa ganyan. Ang tanong ko lang, bakit Huwebes?

    People are used to that. My only question is, why Thursday?

  5. A

    Bakit, ano'ng mali sa Huwebes? 'Yan ang nakasulat sa memo, kinopya ko lang.

    Why, what's wrong with Thursday? That's what the memo says, I just copied it.

    Basahin mo ulit 'yung memo. Miyerkoles ng gabi ang putol, Huwebes ng umaga ang balik.

    Read the memo again. The water goes off Wednesday night and comes back Thursday morning.

    Ay, oo nga! Tatlong kalye na tayong nag-anunsiyo ng maling araw.

    Oh, you're right! We've announced the wrong day on three streets already.

  8. B

    Buti na lang napansin ko, Miyerkoles kasi ang laba ni misis. Iikot ba ulit tayo?

    Good thing I noticed, Wednesday's my wife's laundry day. Should we go around again?

  9. A

    Isang pagwawasto: ang pagkawala ng tubig ay sa Miyerkoles ng gabi, hindi sa Huwebes.

    A correction: the water interruption will be on Wednesday night, not Thursday.
