Day 112 of 160

Day 112: A Murmur, Probably Harmless

At a pediatric clinic in Pasay, Dr. Bernadette (A) has just examined two-year-old Ella and talks with her young parents, Elmer (B) and Allysa (C).

How to study this lesson 3 steps
  1. Read the situation under the title. It says who is talking and how they know each other, which decides how politely they speak.
  2. Read the dialogue line by line with its translation, until every line makes sense.
  3. Spend at least 30 minutes listening to native Tagalog. It doesn't matter if you don't understand it yet.

Dialogue

Audio for this lesson is coming soon. For now, read the dialogue and its translation.

  1. A

While I was listening to Ella's heart, I heard a murmur, an extra sound.

  2. B

Murmur po? Delikado po ba 'yon, Dok?

A murmur? Is that dangerous, Doc?

  3. A

It's probably just an innocent murmur, which is common in children. It may go away as she grows.

  4. C

What if it isn't, Doc? What if there's a hole in her heart?

  5. B

Hon, calm down. The doctor said it's common in kids.

  6. C

Elmer, anak natin 'to.

Elmer, this is our daughter. Doc, is there a test that can tell us for sure?

  7. A

Mayroon: ang 2D echo, isang ultrasound ng puso. Ipapagawa natin bukas para makasiguro ka.

There is: a 2D echo, an ultrasound of the heart. We'll have it done tomorrow so you can be sure.

  8. C

Thank you, Doc. First thing tomorrow, we'll be there before the clinic even opens.
