How to study this lesson 3 steps
  1. Read the situation under the title. It says who is talking and how they know each other, which decides how politely they speak.
  2. Read the dialogue line by line with its translation, until every line makes sense.
  3. Spend at least 30 minutes listening to native Tagalog. It doesn't matter if you don't understand it yet.

  1. A

Attorney, I want to leave the house to Malou. She's the only one who took care of me.

  2. B

I understand. But your other children might contest it, and it seems it wouldn't be allowed in full.

  3. A

Why not? That house is mine, my husband and I worked hard for it.

  4. B

That's true. But under the law, each child has a reserved share that you can't take away from them.

  5. A

Even my eldest, who hasn't visited in five years?

  6. B

That must hurt, but it isn't enough of a reason to take away his inheritance.

  7. A

So there's nothing I can do for Malou?

  8. B

There is. You're free to leave half of your estate to Malou, on top of her own share.

  9. A

Put that in the will, Attorney, while my mind is still clear.
