Day 12 of 160

Day 12: The Wrong Area on the Deed

At a notary public's office in Tanay, Rizal, Matthew (B), a young paralegal, reads the deed of sale in Filipino to Perla (A), who is selling a small lot, and Roland (C), who is buying it.

How to study this lesson 3 steps
  1. Read the situation under the title. It says who is talking and how they know each other, which decides how politely they speak.
  2. Read the dialogue line by line with its translation, until every line makes sense.
  3. Spend at least 30 minutes listening to native Tagalog. It doesn't matter if you don't understand it yet.

Dialogue

Audio for this lesson is coming soon. For now, read the dialogue and its translation.

  1. A

Read it slowly, iho. I'm not used to lawyers' Tagalog.

  2. B

Of course: "The vendor sells to the vendee the lot measuring one hundred fifty square meters."

  3. A

Teka, nagbibili?

Wait, nagbibili? But I'm the one selling, not buying!

  4. B

In deep Tagalog, "nagbibili" is the seller, and Sir Roland is the "bumibili," the buyer.

  5. C

Sandali po, isandaan at limampu? Dalawandaang metro kuwadrado po ang napagkasunduan natin.

Hold on, one hundred fifty? We agreed on two hundred square meters.

  6. A

Oo nga po, dalawandaan. Matthew, nasa titulo ang tamang sukat.

That's right, two hundred. Matthew, the correct area is on the title.

  7. B

I'm sorry, we typed it wrong. I'll fix it before you sign.
