Day 11: Cameras on Every Gate
At a homeowners' association board meeting in a subdivision in Santa Rosa, Laguna, Joey (A) and Dindo (B), two board members, debate Dindo's plan to put CCTV cameras at every gate after parcels went missing from doorsteps.
How to study this lesson 3 steps
- Read the situation under the title. It says who is talking and how they know each other, which decides how politely they speak.
- Read the dialogue line by line with its translation, until every line makes sense.
- Spend at least 30 minutes listening to native Tagalog. It doesn't matter if you don't understand it yet.
Dialogue
Audio for this lesson is coming soon. For now, read the dialogue and its translation.

A
Dindo, isang camera sa bawat gate? Pati bintana ng kapitbahay, makikita na niyan.
Dindo, a camera on every gate? Those would see right into the neighbors' windows.
-
B
Twelve parcels have gone missing this month. Better to act early than to work hard later.
-
A
Early, sure, but don't do to others what you wouldn't want done to you.
-
B
If you've got nothing to hide, why be afraid of a camera?
-
A
This is about rights, not fear. Would you want the guard watching you every night?
-
B
Fine: they point only at the street, there are signs, and only the board watches the footage.

A
Then I've got no objection. Let's just have the homeowners sign off first.
